HOWARD POIZNER is a professor of neuroscience at UCSD, where he investigates the neural bases of human sensorimotor control and learning. His approach involves the analysis of normal motor control and learning, as well as the breakdown of these processes in patients with selective failure of sensory or motor systems of the brain, as in cases of Parkinson’s disease. Howard’s research team develops novel methods of imaging and graphic analysis of the spatiotemporal patterns inherent in digital records of the movement trajectories of limbs, body, head, and eyes, both in real environments and 3D multimodal, immersive virtual environments synchronized with high-definition recordings of patterns of electrical activity in the brain.
